Strength, stability, balance: a good way to begin the new year, and a good way to begin every day!
How do we find strength, stability, and balance?
While there are many aspects in life that need strength, stability and balance, for most situations in life it requires repeated good habits.
Building strength requires repeated good habits. Whether it is physical, mental, emotional strength…. To be strong, we need to first do something the right way, and then do it again and again. Strength training sounds easy, but requires persistence (and doing it correctly, so there is no injury!). Mental/emotional strength is built by thinking the right thoughts and repeating them over and over. That is where the power of using a mantra, or positive affirmations, can help create and build stability in your life.
Balance. Finding balance in life to me is finding a workable balance between work and play, between mental and physical, between helping others and helping myself. Balance also means, standing, not falling! My personal example: when my leg has been weakened by knee surgery, when winds are blowing, when it’s cold and slippery, being flexible enough to adjust to the leg to the wind and the cold, and still finding stability in that balance.
Listen to your gut reaction, then use discernment before taking action. Taking a moment to look inward, see what your body and mind are telling you. They are probably giving you clues to how you can build more strength, stability and balance in your day. For example, maybe you’ve been ignoring something that is making you unhappy. Listen to your gut, think about what it’s telling you, then use discernment to decide how you should act. Maybe you’ve been sitting too long, and your body is stiff and mind is running like crazy. Listen to your gut reaction, use discernment as to how to act. Maybe you’ll click on a short yoga video and get some movement in for the next minute. Then check in later and see how you feel.
Continuing the good habits will help build strength, stability, and balance in your life. What have you found recently that helps you build strength, stability and balance? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
